Bathing Solutions have compiled together some of the best holiday destinations for older people to visit in the UK. Each recommended location has centuries of history behind it and has uniquepoints of interest, which attract people from all around the world.

Devon

Devon being one of the fourth largest counties in England, there is plenty to discover. There are many attractions to explore, with Devon’s historic houses and gardens. One of the top attractions is its heritage attractions. This includes the Buckland Abbey  which was founded in 1278 and has been open to the public since 1951. The beautiful Abbey has 700 years of history behind it and is part house, part museum. Another great attraction is the 600 year old Powderham Castle, with secret doors and exciting events it is a great place to explore. Torquay is described as one of the jewels of the South West and has been described by many as ‘the most beautiful seaside town in the UK’.

It’s a perfect place if you are looking to go somewhere relaxing in your older years, but at the same time are looking to take part in different types of activities. With its historical buildings and beautiful seaside, there is plenty to discover in Devon.

Belfast

Belfast is the largest city of Northern Ireland dating back to the 17th century. There are many historical landmarks to visit and experience. With 400 years of history behind the Antrim Castle Gardens, it is described as an historical gem. The 17th century gardens have a magnificent setting and beautiful features to keep you feeling calm and relaxed. A well-known and popular visitor experience is the Titanic tour. The Titanic was built in Belfast and It is the world’s largest Titanic visitor experience and described as a ‘must see’. There are 10 galleries to explore over 6 floors giving visitors the full Titanic experience. It is enriched with detailed historical events that occurred through the 1900’s and onwards.

Cambridge

Cambridge is well known for its university and history. It is great place to visit if you want to walk around and explore the small and historic town centre. The Botanic Garden has been open since 1846 – with a plant collection of over 8000 species. It is packed with museums and galleries displaying iconic pieces satisfying eclectic taste. The Fitzwilliam Museum is an art and antiques museum holding ‘Ancient, Egyptian, Greek, Roman antiques to the arts of the 21st century’.  To enjoy fantastic views of Cambridge, a trip across the River Cam by punt is perfect, as it allows you to view the beauty of the town from the water.

Cambridge can be explored by foot as it is a small town and many walking tours are available. The beauty of the town is that it is laidback and it’s easy to travel around in, making it a great holiday destination for visitors in their older years.

Lake District

Lake District is a popular holiday destination and is situated in the North West of England. As the largest National Park in England there is plenty to do and see. It was also home to poets, Coleridge and Wordsworth. Following the poets’ footstepswalk around the breathtaking mountains and large lakes, which enrich visitor’s experience. England’s highest mountain is in the Lake District and it is called the Scafell Pike. It is a scenic place packed with events and activities. There are many free events and guided walks that visitors can take part in. It is said that the best time to visit in in April and May.

Lake District is a beautiful part of the UK and is packed with activities that will make you appreciate the beauty of the mountains and the purity of the lakes. It is a great holiday destination for visitors in their later years who are looking to venture a little further, whilst  still staying in the UK.
