Arthritis Care

Arthritis Care is our Charity of the Month for April

Around 10 million people suffer with arthritis throughout the UK, that’s one in five of the adult population

There are many different forms of arthritis with Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis being the main two. Arthritis Care is there to support people with all the different forms of arthritis, from every age group

One of the main misconceptions about arthritis is that it only occurs in the elderly, but in fact many young children, teenagers and young people are affected

Arthritis Care is working hard to raise awareness of the occurrence of arthritis in young people.

Here are the main symptoms of arthritis to look out for;

  • Discomfort
  • Pain
  • Stiffness in one or more joint
  • Swelling of joints
  • Fatigue

Arthritis Care is the UK’s leading arthritis charity working with and for people with arthritis and exists to support and empower arthritis sufferers and their families; raise awareness of arthritis and campaign for change

Arthritis Care provides clear and accurate information about arthritis and has the UK’s only Helplines team of qualified counsellors for arthritis in the UK

They take over 200 calls each week and provide this confidential service free of charge

You can ask questions about anything you are worrying about, they will give you support and helpful information or are just there for you to have a chat with someone understanding

Calls to the Helplines are free from most landlines and mobiles and are open 10am – 4pm Monday – Friday every week on 0808 800 4050

You can also email at [email protected].

There is also a forum on the website where you can ask the Helplines team any questions, as well as contribute your own views and experiences. This is also a great way of being in contact with other people living with arthritis, all sharing experiences and tips

Arthritis Care has a range of information booklets with help and advice on all aspects of living with arthritis – from healthy eating to independent living. These booklets are available to download from the website, or you can download an order form to get hard copies here

Arthritis Care organises self-management courses throughout the UK to help people to cope with their condition and get the most out of life. Find out more here http://www.arthritiscare.org.uk/PublicationsandResources/Selfmanagement/Workshopscourses

There are over 180 Arthritis Care branches throughout the UK which is a great way for arthritis sufferers to meet and mix with people who understand what they are going through

They often hold social activities and fundraisers, click here to find out more about what is happening in your area

If you don’t want to become part of a branch you could become an Arthritis Care postal member for a small annual fee and receive a great support package including a quarterly magazine, discounted holidays worldwide and reduced membership for the first year of MedicAlert.
