Alzheimer’s and Dementia in Elderly

Dementia is a word used to describe a group of symptoms

These include gradual loss of memory, communication skills and the ability to think and reason clearly

Dementia is not a normal part of ageing but is the result of complex brain diseases

There are several different causes of dementia, with Alzheimer’s disease being the most common

Other causes of dementia include vascular dementia, frontotemporal dementia and dementia with Lewy bodies

All of these forms of dementia can affect people in different ways, and it is important that people with dementia, their families, and carers get the help and support they need

With over 820,000 people in the UK living with dementia, there is a desperate need to develop better ways of preventing, diagnosing and treating dementia

As the UK’s leading dementia research charity, Alzheimer’s Research fund world-class pioneering scientists across the UK to understand more about dementia and how it can be defeated

They also produce information booklets to help people understand dementia and the current treatments available

Alzheimer’s Research encourage everyone to join them in supporting research and achieving a world free from dementia.
