Technology tip of the week: How can I get back something I have lost?

You are finally getting to the end of that piece of work that you have been doing for an hour or day, but feels like a lifetime and then one false move, and bang you are looking at a blank screen feeling mortified! How can you get that lost file back?

It’s amazing how fast a single keystroke or mouse click can change your life, but not everything that disappears is lost forever.

The first place to search is the recycle bin. If it is there, it is simply a case of restoring the file and you are all good to go again. Just remember to keep saving and always have a backup copy. If that does not work, you can try to navigate back to the folder where the file originally was. Right-click on that folder and, if available, select “Restore previous versions.” You may be able to go back in time and bring back the contents of that folder from a previous date.

If these options do not prove effective, then there are programmes designed for you to download to recover files but this is a worst case scenario and 9 times out of 10, your file will be sat in the recycle bin.
